Monthly Kilowatt Usage and Cost

Im around 250-260 KW now except for about 4 months when my well house heater runs a lot, then around 300-350. My bills are $60-85, depending on usage and time of year.

i use an electric water heater which is my biggest drain. I dont use all these things lots of people use like clothes dryers, electric cook stove, fans or blowers other than ceiling fans or small floor ones, AC only when its hot enough to fry an egg on pavement. I have 2 yard lights at 26 watts each so not much there. Rarely more than one light on inside my house.

I seem to use less as time goes on and I get better at it.

I remember one of those charts where I was in the bottom 20% of the bottom 20% of local users, but many are farmers with lots of electric drains.

The price per Kw on your graph. Is that the total bill divided by Kws? Or just the supply or delivery charge?

Glad you like it - I created it in Excel. The price per kwh is the total bill divided by the kwh.

My bills really started going nuts when my two boys got to the toddler stage. They know how to turn everything on, but not off. They also create a lot of laundry and leave doors open (like on the fridge and the house!).

Right, right. We could definitely cut some power around here. The computer is on 24/7 most of the time and everything that goes along with it. 65 inch LCD TV is on 12-15 hours a day. Kids play video games, we try to limit some of that lol, good luck. There is a big ceiling fan that runs 24/7 all winter to help with evening out heat distribution in the new living room. For energy, we have electric and coal, that's it. So of course, electric hot water (in the summer and partly in winter) electric cook stove, electric dryer all use 220 volts. The hot tub and pool pump are power pigs. Dishwasher, water well pump and we have a family of 5. So I suppose the power usage is warranted, we could tighten some leaks though.

600kw in winter months and 900kw in summer months. Electric bill about $100 a month year round. 80 gal. Electric hot water tank. Electric stove and dryer. 3 refrigerators. And lights on all around the exterior of house till midnight.

Average Summer usage is only several hundred KWH.

I have an electric furnace, plus a electric baseboard heat in the bathroom, so that jumps the KW up around 2000 average per the 8 months of winter. Otherwise, I use LED light bulbs and shut off lights when not in a room.

Total cost of electric rate (delivered) is .05 KWH in summer and might go up as high as .10 KWH in February. Electric rate is very low because we have no big power company to pay for. My village is one of a few in NYS that has it's own electric department, repair crew, and trucks, and a long-term contract for cheaper hydroelectric.

We average about 330 KWH per month. Overall price (Bill/KWH) varies a bit month to month, but hovers at about $0.1435/KWH. That puts my average monthly bill at about $47.36.

When our house was all electric we used on average about 2,300 KWH per month, but that was before energy efficient LED's, an energy star refrigerator, a high efficiency deep freezer, and an induction range. We are still electric on everything sans DHW and home heat.

Before LED's, the energy star refrigerator, the high efficiency deep freezer, and the induction range, but after the coal boiler, we used about 500 KWH per month. So the modern high efficiency stuff is saving us about 170 KWH/month, or about $24.40 per month (~$293 per year).

445 kWh this month - $74.27 or $0.167 per kWh
465 kWh per month average over last year

Looks like going from hand fired boiler to stoker might have added 15 kWh per month based on last year's average of 449 versus this year's at 465.

My usage is for my house & repair shop, as both are on the same meter.For the past 12 months, i averaged 1332 kwh/month. I pay .1336/kwh for the total bill... total bill amount divided by the kwh number = $.1336/kwh.
My electric bill includes 1 chest freezer,2 side by side frig/freezers,electric washer,dryer,cook stove,well pump which pumps water for 2 houses & my shop,no tv,no hot water heater,most lites are fluorescent or led ,lots of shop lites lit for about 60 hrs/wk ,4 outdoor 4' florescent fixtures are security lighting,lots of blade sharpening with 1 hp sharpener. Electric usage for EFM stoker/boiler for yr-round use for 3 buildings & hot water.

Fkn delivery charge kills me. For Oct. on-peak 369 kwh--$16.71------off-peak 144 kwh--$4.26----delivery charge $39.63--taxes $3.33--I'm on some kinda plan & pay $52.00 per month & NYSEG ends up owin me at the end of the yr which they credit to my acct. Usually $100.00 plus

If your house is all electric (with well) and you are considering a coal boiler for home heat and year round DHW, my best initial guess is that a coal boiler will eliminate all but about 18% of your electric bill (+/- 3%).

Looking at this another way, 82% (+/- 3%) of a homes total energy consumption goes into home heating and domestic (potable) water heating. Unless you go crazy with the air conditioner during the summer. We only use ours when its really hot. A few days a summer.

Sorry Fred, but I find my post 100% relevant to the issue of a homes kilowatt consumption. Did you read the topic? It is not about electrical costs at all. By your standard, every discussion of cost is off topic more than the post of mine that you are upset about.

Not upset at all. I just understood that the OP was looking for individual members home usage. Didn't mean to get your panty's in a knot. I think your last post was real relevant for anyone PLANNING to go total coal & you explained it well. Not about use & cost??? Geeze, I musta misread the topic heading.

Oops, I looked only at the heading of the poll, and not the heading (title) of the thread. The thread does mention cost. The poll question does not.
