I bet the electric company smiles as they drive by lol
I think even the GOES satellite guides itself by those lights on Rouses Point. Even Rudophs nose is not so important these days. How about some pics for the bored board. Or how about a luniest neighbor contest. I may have an entry or 2. All sorts of plastic chit is going up on Steves lawn today here.

I live in Chazy, not Rouses Point. Not very far apart, but there is a BIG difference in the electric rate. Rouses Point has some of the cheapest electric in NY...for now.

The interior will be piped sized for NG...
Will start with propane...
Then once the neighbors get with it...
Run the main to the end of the street...
It cost the neighbor 10k to go from oil to NG...
On top of paying for the extension...
Plus $600 to go from the street to the house...
Maybe 60 feet...
Our electric rate is high due to forced gov't programs...
And decent maintenance on the lines...
Plus the Pilgrim Nuke is set to shut down in 2019...
You should see all the roof top solar PV down here...
And how was that so cheap for the install...
We get more efficient and the unit price goes up...

Finally I am getting bills for electric.

Last month for March I used 374 kilowatts.

Bill was 50.00.

.13 cents/KW.

I burnt 1825 pounds of coal as a side note.

I have a Chevy Bolt EV and am on a TOU rate for electric

car off peak rate from 11 PM to 7 AM.

My march bill usage was 39 KWhr on peak and 126 KWhr

off peak. My total cost per KWhr Peak $0.10754 and the

Off Peak $0.04760 per KWhr . This is a 56% discount on

the electric used overall.

My Bolt has a 60 KW battery so to charge completely takes

60 KWhr x $0.04760 = $2.86 per charge (complete)

I go about 3 miles per KW so 60 x 3 = 180 miles for

$2.86 /180 = $0.016 per mile or $1.60 per 100 miles.

I should get more miles per KW as the weather warms up,

over 238 miles the rated capacity. Some drivers are getting

high 3's to 4 in warm weather.

Whem our home was all electric we were in the 2000 KWH+ per month category. Lowest annual was 24,000 and highest annual was 30,000 KWH back then.

On one cold February we were hit with a $600 electric bill. And electricity didn't cost near what it does now when that happened. It inspired the coal boiler.

For available electric utilities tariffs look up your utility at your state's PUC website,
There may be more than you are aware of.

I live in NY and they are happy that I buy the excess power available at

night when the power use falls. In NY the governor wants 50% of the

power supply to be renewable by 2030 , so electric cars are perfect.

They have you sign a contract for 1 year and if the other rates would

be cheaper they refund your money and you can at this time change

to another plan . We have another rate plan TOU which has more off

peak hours but this EV plan lets you use electric from 11: 00 pm to

7: 00 am at the off peak rate , about 56% off .

Helps to even up the consumption peaks and lows for the utility. With these big discounts most people will only recharge during the off peak hours.

BB, it's wonderful that you lay out the costs of charging your EV but you are missing the big picture. For most of us in the frigid North it would not matter if the power was free, EVs are just to limited - end of story. However, keep going you are entertaining and summer boredom is coming up. Cuomo is an idiot and like most liberals misses the big picture also. All these ideas cost money. That equals higher taxes and people and industry are moving South in droves as a result. You know like Ca that is $180Bn in debt and their wealth is vanishing also.

Lies often repeated are still lies. Common sense is a scarce commodity in that neck of the wood.

Depends on your situation. The biggest limiting factor for me is i have absolutely NO use(or very little use) for a small commuter car ,which is about all thats available in electric. So yes even if he power were free i wouldnt be buying something i have no use for. However 238 miles per charge is not limiting at all if you do need a commuter car even in cold weather your bound to do at least 150 or more. Buying a brand new car to get that, may be limiting for many.
I see lots of positives though as it helps the rest of us who have no intention of going electric, by keeping the lid on gas prices to some extent. Even a small bump in "consumption vs production" can cause price hikes. Seems to be creeping up already. Let gas prices get anywhere near $4-$5 Gallon again and electrics will take off.
Every industry needs some form of competition so the monopolies dont gouge our eyes out with ridiculous prices.
(like the Drug Companies do). Electrics are about the only other game in town. NG and Hydrogen are still novelties and probably never amount to squat. IMHO . Electrics are at present the red headed step child of the auto world just like NG and Oil burners of home heating tend to look at us coal burners and wonder "what are they thinking" all that work just to save a few bucks on heating fuel. But we know ,theres more to it than that.
