I should mention that Streits coal delivery did a fantastic job and went above and beyond by moving these barrels in and out of my garage.

Garage and basement are same level. Front of the house is all below grade (plus there's a porch in the way) and no way to get to the rear of the house.
Had 9.5 barrels moved in less than an hour.

Getting coal out of the bottom may be the only real challenge. We shall see

How about a chain fall to lift barrel...
A harness to balance the barrel...
Then just pour into hopper...
Or setup a CoalVac...

My coal is usually very wet when delivered. Was yours? If so, the coal in the bottom will be soaked if there are no drain holes in your barrels. I would not recommend ever using wet or even damp coal in your hopper

I'd rather it wet to keep the dust down. Why not use wet coal in the hopper?

yeah after NEPAcoal brought it up I did a little reading around the forum. I'm hoping it's damp but not soaking wet once I get to the bottom of the barrels. If it starts to get too wet I'm thinking I can pick from another barrel until I hit more wet stuff and just keep round robin the barrels if I have to. Something I didn't really think about too much to be honest so thank you for bringing that up.
It was raining the day it was delivered. Luckily Streits moved the barrels in and out of the my garage for me so they weren't sitting out in the rain.
