So lets' break down my purchasing decisions in buying Pierre's Sunnyside. It will be running by Nov 1 for 5 months at a medium output. I am no isayre, but if the rest of the house was oil heated (which it is not). The load taken off the central heat would be the equivalent of 1500 galls (Nov to Apr) if we just run it at 25000 btu all day, everyday. My coal is about one third the cost of HO as I buy in bulk. So this winter I save roughly 1000 galls = $2000. Everything is approximate and the real numbers do not matter. So payback is 2 years, again approximately. Let's be pessimistic and say it is three years.

So at the end of three years what do I have? What is the residual value of the stove. Well, well, that is at least what I paid for it. So owning this stove is just the cost of borrowing the money. I discount this as I think it will appreciate. Would anybody like to do this calc. with solar heat? hahahahaha. So ... give up buying junk guys. Buy the best quality, restored, efficient stoves you can afford and look after them (very low maintenance) ... best deal in town. End of sermon.

I love your thinking Simon, you antique coal stove hoarder! as I walked the isles and acreage behind Bryant Stoves I thought of the great savings I am allowing my family heating with coal and the fact daddy is busy with his hoarding stoves issues, lets be grateful daddy isn't sleeping all day and partying all nice wasting his hard earned money on booze and illegal substances.
My wife would buy a pair of expensive shoes on line at a discount paying the difference on shipping yet proclaiming saving all thought none was had.
I think along the same lines until a godsmack tells me my saving came with my first stove and all other purchases simply my hoarding issues though not shoes.

4 tons through a very efficient stove = about 850 gallons of No. 2 through an average boiler. If your oil boiler is old/inefficient, the amount of fuel displaced by the new stove could approach 1000 gallons, as you mentioned.

Regardless of the fuel savings, the steady heat from the Sunnyside will certainly feel better than hot water baseboards.

Paulie, I would gladly covet those pieces if only I had the faintest idea what they were. Please explain.

You are not evil ... Evil is the nasty lady who sold me the Garnet as a functional stove for me only to find that 48 windows were lucite. Or the guy who walked off with the doors to toby as he was going to clean them for me never to return... that is evil. You are just a stove capitalist who rescues orphans from the scrap heap to make a few bucks or collect whatever. That is a noble venture. If you have parts I need, that is trading and it is what makes the whole world go round.

Simon, these are the bell tower caps that set on top of the columns on both sides of the insert. They were missing on your Sunnyside and Pierre had two decorative caps made to fill in the spaces.

Looking at the Sunnyside installed, the one on the left side is actually a humidifier and may also be used as a spittoon if so desired.

I cleaned them up this past summer and planned to send them out to Tomahawk to have a set recast for our northern friend.

Thinking back .......I may have dealt with that evil nasty lady myself. Before restoring the Rosemont, I decided to fire it up, only to find that the crystal clear mica windows on the side doors were actually cut from a 2 Liter Coca-Cola bottle.
