Subject pretty much says it all. Purchased the LL hyfire used on craigslist at the end of last winter (I think it was late March). Got it installed and started up for just a couple days before cleaning it and putting it to bed for the summer. I've been reading this forum all summer and I'm legitimately EXCITED to start burning coal. Is this normal? lol
Here's to a good safe burning season...

Hell yeah man, I get excited every year and this will be my 7th lol. Even in spite of using a handicapped multi fuel combo furnace! I think of it as being a souped up mini van.

Just because its normal to get excited does not mean that the OP is normal. LOL

Yes this is normal. If you burned wood that would be Abie Normal, stole that from Young Frankenstein.

I showed my wife your responses to show her I'm not crazy for being excited about this. Now she just thinks I'm online taking to a bunch of other crazies lol

True. One of the requirements is that you must name your stove. My stove's name is Ashley.

I burn both wood and coal (in different places) I have to say i dont get too exited about the coal cuz its just more work ,but the wood gives such a great fire show ,and theres nothing quite like a blazing wood fire with a view in your living room on a cold winter day. The coal stove however is hidden away in the basement next to the rarely used oil boiler. I guess you can get exited about saving money though.

Just speaking for myself, I am completely normal and grounded and simply enjoy the warmth my family gets from heating with the best American product in the world! ...I have clothes that have the word coal on them. I hate to carry laundry to and fro the basement but a 50lb bag of stove coal or a pan of ash?? absolutely!! My neighbors call me to tell me some of my windows are open a couple inches when it's -20* outside. I have more pictures of coal stoves on my computer than...never mind.
I have 4 coal stoves, and I recently drove 216 miles to look at antique stoves, hope to find #5...completely grounded, you hear?! lol.
Welcome.
