Please keep the political comments out of the main forums. Thanks.
I'm moving this to the General Discussion area as it's not specifically related to hand fired stoves.

According to forum rules, topic titles should be somewhat specific. That's all I got for ya Joe lol.joeq wrote:Sorry,... for what I don't know. My title got changed, and some-how "politics" got thrown in, somewhere, somehow
And since it's not specified "what" in particular is burning, well I've been burning wood pellets in the pellet stove and occasionally cardboard outside in my burn barrel. Oh, also I burnt some gasoline getting to work this morning and I think I'll fire up the grill which burns propane....

Wife been complaining it was cold last week but I held off lighting the KA-6. I do not turn on the heat zones for the oil boiler. It just does the hot water in the summer. Generally light the coal late September or beginning of October depending on the year. I was tempted though. That is why I jumped on here to see how many were lighting up.

I lit up the Chubby last week for few days. Chilly mornings were killing my knees. Then it got back into the 60's and I let it go out. It sure felt good though!

My KA-6 has been simmering all summer long heating my domestic hot water. I actually turned up the thermostat for heat about 3 weeks ago, it was 32 degrees one morning. Using an little over a 1/3rd of a bag a day to heat hot water = about a $1/day. Cheaper than turning on the oil boiler in the morning for shower then turning it off after that if you do not forget. Then no hot water at night, if needed. With the coal, 24/7 hot water.

Wow, CL, you've been pretty busy, aye? How many times do you need to tend to your KA to keep it rollin? Must have quite the pile of ash.Clousseau wrote:My KA-6 has been simmering all summer long heating my domestic hot water. I have to empty the manufacturer's supplied ash bucket once every six days. It is about 3/4 to 7/8 full at that point. The ash goes into the bags the coal came in & goes to the dump about once a month. Other than that, I do not even know the thing is running except I take a peek in the morning when I get up to move the coal around in the hopper once in a while. Bought the unit new 2 years ago and was ready to give it back to Keystoker after the 1st winter. Have learned a lot since from the forum and now feel confident and have trust in the old girl.
