I am contemplating ordering a 20 ton truckload of rice to be delivered to my house. I'm not sure if it's feasible yet, so I'm looking for some input.

What do you guys do to store 20 ton of coal? Let's see some pics!

By my calculations, 20 ton of rice would be ~20'x10'x5' Does that sound correct?

Could I just put a large tarp on the ground, have it dumped on, then put another tarp on top?

6 x 12 x 12 = 21.6 tons or 4 x 12 x 16 = 19.2 tons or 4 x 16 x 16 = 25.6 tons 4 x 15 x 15 = 22.5tons Being Plywood is 4x8 or 4x12 I would keep it 4 ft tall But if you have room You can buy 3x4 or 3x6 foot concrete blocks and make a bin with
them you would need a tractor to move them in Place LS Farm / Greg has them for his bin you can use a tarp to cover it or build a roof back and sides and keep the front open to unload & get to the coal

Here's my picture. At this point it's having trouble holding coal, but once things are complete it will be a 16 by 18' cement pad with stack-um blocks on two sides, a sheep shed wall for the back.

This was 29.5 tons of UAE coal.. the concrete blocks are 2'x2'x6'.. I moved this pile from this temporary location to a perminant coal bin next to the boiler-building [second photo] I covered the coal bin with a tent-roof.

Had 23 tons deliverd last month, so far have taken 2 tons from the pile into the basement. The tarp is 20' x 40' with about 4' empty at the end.

I was thinking about laying down a tarp and maybe putting some 4x4 pressure treated posts in the ground, but I'm not sure what to do for the side walls. I don't think there will be too much pressure on the sidewalls, most of the weight is on the ground.

How much do those 2'x2'x6' concrete blocks cost?

vtec350, how much was 23 tons delivered to western Ma? What mine is it from?

Hi Jeremy,

I bought it from my local dealer where I purchased my boiler. It was $185.00/ton and I have a buddy with a tri-axel so he picked it up for me in 2 loads. He gets his coal from Centralia Coal.

I'll ask him if he knows anyone who's going down that way,he knows a lot of truckers in the area still.

Thanks. I called Superior and got a name of a trucking company. UAE said they are BOOKED solid for Rice and they have nothing to sell me, plus they don't deliver or help with delivery.

I called Lenig Calvin, but got their answering machine.

I've never heard of summit. Are they deep mined?

What other breakers are deep mined?

Tom There are 5 Deep mine coal breaker's Superior coal UAE Harmony Mine Calvin V Lenig coal co. kimmel coal co. Has both Deep and strip Mixed Summit Anthracite is 6.5 Miles down the road from Superior Summit is surface & deep mine coal Right Now they are not Running any of there Deep mines UAE & Calvin V Lenig is 130.00 a ton Superior & Summit is 140.00 a ton if you buy 20 or more tons you will Pay 137.00 a ton The Prices will be going up on 8/1/08 for Superior and I am sure the rest will follow so get it now

Yah the lady at UAE was pretty short/rude with me on the phone!

It wasn't the normal PA hospitality that I am used to. I will call Tom on Monday!

OK so Superior, UAE, and Calvin V Lenig are 100% deep mined.

And Kimmel and Summit are a mixture of deep and strip mined!

Coming along.... some rebar, some concrete, some more stack-um blocks & I'll be ready to order the fuel. It's not an illusion.... The coal bin slopes 1/2" from right to left and 4" from back to front. The pad behind the bin slopes 1" from left to right. The rear pad will be a slab for a sheep shed & we want it to drain in that direction. Yes, I know it would take 3 or 4" of slope to make it really drain, we're just hoping when we clean it with a hose the water will tend to go that way.
