The bin is 400 feet by 550 feet. I'm getting 77,432 ton delivered next Tue. ;)

OK, OK, it started out to be 16' by 16', but ended up 16' by 18'. The blocks are 2' by 2' by 4'. 24 tons of Superior coming this tue. Today I got a personal call from Roger at Superior Coal. He said Double Run trucking is coming monday to pick up my load & wanted to make sure the correct size was sent. I thought that was real nice of him!

Almost every Sunday for 10 years my wife & I went fo a ride looking for a piece of land. We found this 12 acres in 1992 built the house 2 years later. It's 4 miles from town. We've been here ever since & will go from here to the funeral parlor.

Yaaaa, I've spent all my savings, but won't have to spend a penny on heat for 4 or 5 years. I dunno.... I might stop putting money into an IRA and just add on to the coal supply each year. When I die someone can become a dealer LOL.
I'd rather not say exactly what I payed as every delivery is different and diesel prices change daily. Let's just says that to buy coal locally it's about $320-$340 a ton. I saved about a hundred bucks a ton by buying 24 ton at once. My pad cost me about $1,100 so the first 4 or 5 years I saved $1,400. That's at todays prices, if coal goes up, my payback is quicker.

OK, OK, stop twisting my arm! $222 a ton. Your price may vary. South of me cheaper, north of me more.

nice, I can't wait to see how the 24 ton fits into that size. That seems to be the size to go with based on what other members have done as well!!

p.s. NICE JOB!

One last picture. The back wall was a bit low as those blocks are in the ground a bit. I added cement blocks to bring it up to four feet. Also a few blocks to make the step down less severe. Ohhh I just realized I should get some flat block and cap the top of the cinder block so they can't get water in them & freeze & break.

I'm sure it will fit....although I'd be happy it it overflowed LOL..... I will have a blue tarp on the ground outside the bin to catch over flow if there is any. After delivery I can scoop what little overflow there is into the bin & shut the door. Door?

Hi Freddy,, be aware that the pea coal flows like water.. so stuff newspaper, or old plastic coal bags into the joints/corners that are open all the way through the walls.. Or you will have coal pouring out like water.. You can see the effect in my photo below

Thanks for the tip! I had two slots about an inch and a half. I cut wedge shaped two by fours to fit & drove them with a two pound ball pean. I do have a few that are 1/2". Think I ought to plug those? I don't want to morter them as I know frost will move the blocks and crack morter. I can plug them one way or another if you think it'll flow through a half inch opening.

I think you will be fine now.. the pile you see out the side of my temporary bin was through a 2" opening between the blocks..

the first time I just drove it in with a skidsteer. now I just back up my triaxle and dump the coal out the chute into a grain auger and auger it in. I carry it out as need in 5 gallon buckets

What size grain auger do you use? 4inch?? Larger?? how large a motor does it take? Does it require more motor for coal than grain? I assume you are auguring rice coal :?:
