The news release says that Reading Anthracite will handle the transaction. In a Trains magazine article about it (need subscription) they say Reading Anthracite will handle it and that the coal will come from 6 different mines. Don't know how many mines Reading operates but if someone from the area sees any news about this could they post it. I find it as good news for the area.

It seems like good news for the producers, the people who work for them and the transportation providers. Not so much for domestic anthracite users, for which increased exports generally would create upward pressure on prices.

According to Reading Anthracite it is good for the domestic users also because the domestic market alone does not justify staying in business.Pacowy wrote:It seems like good news for the producers, the people who work for them and the transportation providers. i can remember all the comments on this board about raw unsized coal in the bags the last time we sold large amounts to China as they couldnt keep up with demand and just bagged anything. I saw some of that myself.
Why is China using Ant for energy production with its increased cost? Is China trying to make their air breathable again? China is also famous for changing their minds midway thru a process.
On a bright side, perhaps Reading will not be able to supply TSC with their nut sized coal that many on here hate and TSC has to find another supplier like Blaschak, Kimmels, Lehigh, etc.
Regardless if good or bad, it may be a good idea to buy your coal early as this could take a little while for the mines to gear up for and could possibly disrupt supply like it did the last time.
I doubt it will raise coal prices with low liquid fuel costs we have now.

The last time I checked there were multiple producers of anthracite still in business. It shouldn't be a surprise that new export of a big chunk of current production will put upward pressure on domestic prices, whether or not a producer wants to say it.gaw wrote:According to Reading Anthracite it is good for the domestic users also because the domestic market alone does not justify staying in business.
