I'm going down and spending two days at the DS manufacturing plant to look at their new stoker boiler. If anyone has any questions or concerns now would be a good time to get them answered.

What means of stoking do they utilize?

The boiler has a pot type burner and has an auger feed. It has an 8 inch bottom flue with a range of 55,000 to 200,000 BTU's. It has dual safety switches for shutting down in case of overheating or the fire going out. It's all stainless tubes and rings and they changed the domestic cool to a bolt on flange. There's a separate control panel that allows you to control the flow and fan speed. They also came out with a new insert that looks like the Anthra Max that's real nice looking. I have a video and pics I need to get downloaded. They've Ben working on this boiler for three years and it's a reall solid nice looking unit. They've got 2000 hours on their final prototype and may release some this fall. It's going to retail in the 6800 range.

I forgot to add you can get a hopper as large as 1000 pounds or special order one up to a ton that can sit 14 feet from the boiler or connect into your own bin.

It seems from the description to perhaps be an underfed stoker that copies upper level features from the modern Leisure Line / AA 'coal retrofit' boilers, adopting the best features from both worlds.

Would this be a fair first impression?

I don't know anything about the Leisure Linw boilers. I have to work today but I plan on doing some research. As for being underfed the heated their facility last winter with no problems. I'll probably order three for this season and will know more come spring. Any other comments are welcome. I forgot to add this boiler weighs 1100 pounds.

any one seen the new DS wood and coal insert yet on messick stove site ? just what I seen am not sure looks well built as the rest of there stoves but look close at the size of the hopper opening for feeding coal , very small from what I could see and also they have a coal hod made to fit this small opening to ! looks like it has 3 grates and the rest of the usuall fixtures as does there stoves , but the small top feed and speciall made coal hod has me wondering how well that will go ? have a great day guys and stay cool dam heat wave

The new insert looks like the Anthramax. We discussed the coal feed and they are changing it. It's well built with a nice sized ashpan and firebox. I think they need a feed door that opens sideways and is hinged to stay open on its own while feeding coal to it.

Looks purty, any plans to build something bigger?

O, almost forgot. Little hint for making videos and taking pictures with your cell phone.

I'm not the best when it comes to these phones lol. They had one burning when I was there and it was hot. Of coarse it was 90 out too. It seems to have a bigger firebox than our Hitzer does.

Do you need to make a reservation with them in advance in order to tour their factory, or can I just drop in unannounced during business hours and do a walk through?

I'm not sure if they do walkthroughs at any other time then their open house. You could call and ask them.
