Fresh install it's been cruising along at 275 doing just fine very impressed. Went from a wood stove yesterday morning to this wish I would have never wasted my time with wood.

Well done. Beautiful setting. By the way, what kind of coal, to make those tall yellow flames?

Hi Joeq, There man made ovoids ( see pic) . They have anthracite coating and some other magical mix which produces a smokless fuel which produces a high heat and everything burns to ash , so no clinker buildup . We have strict rules in the uk , so can’t burn bituminous coal , but wood , anthracite , and man made ovoids are allowed . Excel is the ovoids I use . £330 per tonne .

Hi , The anthracite that the coal merchant sells is mined in Wales . I have tried burning it in my stove but it is small in size and most falls thru the riddling bars unburnt into the ashpan . That’s why I use the ovoids they are large so fill the firepot and allow plenty of under air fire thru the grates to keep the fire going . I suspect our anthracite is a far more inferior product than your anthracite mined in the USA , plus it is more expensive.

Last posted when I had the Coalbrookdale installed, 11 months ago . If any of you have seen my recent posts I’m the proud owner of this Red Cross mica baseburner double heater 😀. Apologies for the pics being sideways 🤬.

Hi Fred , since I’m using anthracite instead of excel the mica is keeping so much cleaner, just a quick wipe with diluted white wine vinegar, then clean water with the wife’s cotton wool throwaway eye makeup wipes and it’s clean as can be 👍
