At least the moonbats are protecting their own.

I guess bats must be pretty dumb because if my house was on fire I would get the hell out. How can the bats be living in a mine if the mine is burning?

Perhaps they are dead already, but no one will know about it if they don't put that fire out soon. Did you ever imagine living in a country where bats were more protected than humans?gaw wrote:I guess bats must be pretty dumb because if my house was on fire I would get the hell out. bats are in older shafts of the MINES in that area. this isn't an open pit mine only. you got to remember back around turn of century most coal was shaft mined. and shafts were all over the area coal was. And they took out in the range of 25 MILLION tons of caol a year, so now try to visualize how many shafts and how many levels the shafts are on. in other words...miles of shafts on many levels.

I would think it's more about the money than the bats, bats are beneficial but are dying off from a fungus. I would tend to think it's more to bide time to figure out what to do. Figure how much they spent on Centralia & haven't even come close to putting it out. Like wilder said many miles of shafts & levels, if they can't shut off the air supply the fire won't go out until the coal is gone.
