i going to build a coal bin and buy bulk this summer. my buddy got bulk from local supplier and it was superior rice. the coal was all the same size. well i'm almost out and I called him and asked him to bring a 5 gal bucket over and try it out. we cleaned what was left out the hopper to the push bar and dumped it in. in a couple hours or so I lost 5 degrees in the house. the coal burned real nice and low ash , but no heat from it. the blue flames were barely 4 to 5 inches high. usally with the blaschak , the flames are dancing off the top of the stove. they have diff size coal in their rice bags. was not impressed at all.

Hey Ken,
I'm buying Superior Buck size for my stoker, it burned really well, no complaints. Maybe that would work better for you as well.

Good point. The Superior I have really isn't "low ash". As Coal Berner has said, coal too low in ash really won't burn well. If it's too low in ash production the processors have to "dirty" it up a little bit. Maybe what Ken has isn't really Superior coal.

No Need to call the guy call Superior and talk to Roger coal 1-800-780-2625 and find out if they even ship out there And ash content is not low 12.4 to 14% BTU's Run From 13.500 to 13.800 Per lb I have been burning Superior since 1997 My stove pipe temp inside with a probe Thermomenter is right now 665F Above the heat reclamer below the baro The other probe is right at the flue coming out of the stove that is 1055F and climbing I will bet you a ton of coal that it is not Superior coal and I am not kidding about the ton either The only Problem is the the ton of coal will have to come from down here because I only burn coal from 4 breaker and no where else And by the way Blaschak breaker is 6 miles one way from my house and Superior is 23 miles one there is a reason why I drive a a extra 34 miles to get coal I also have one breaker 1.5 miles from me and another one 2.5 miles that should tell you something about Superior coal Also was it Red ash or White ash are you sure the guy did not say Summit that is lower ash 9 to 9.5 % and they are 4.5 miles up the road from Superior Give me the Name of the Supplier that as the coal I will call Roger and find out ;) One more thing I have taken over 65 Members on this Forum to buy coal and I have not had one Complaint Yet about any off the coal breaker I have taken them two and you know if it was bad coal it would be all over this forum I really can't say that for any of the other coal companies that are talked about on here and I don't make a dime from anybody for doing it except for a few members and I do not expected it either I do it so people can Buy good Quality coal and nothing else and no free coal I pay the same as everyone else and you talking a few Hundred Ton's of coal that I help to sell for the breaker's And I am sure when they read this they will chime in and tell you the samething that I just Stated

I'm a long time user of Blaschak Coal and recently tried a batch of Superior pea, the Superior in my opinion produced more heat, burned slower and produced less ash than the Blaschak I used this season . It seems to like a bit more air after shake down to get going then can be cut back quite a bit to maintain a hot long burn it also seemed to produce a good bit more fly ash than the Blaschak but it's hard to confirm since I haven't opened the door on the stove since Oct when I lit it and I'm just going by whats piling up on the sill in front of the glass and there could be other factors involved other than the coal.

I'm not sure Superior is the type of operation that you can just call and get a list of retailers in your area like you do with Blaschak, they are a smaller regional supplier that deals in bulk only this is prolly a good thing as they are also priced $25 less per ton than Blaschak.

A reseller more than likely buying thru a broker in bulk and distributing it to folks like yourself.

Here's some info about Stockton Coal. It's breaker is located outside of Hazleton. I'd imagine they are getting their coal through Pagnotti.

They should take superior, summit and harmony and mix it all together. You'd have high Heat low ash. Coal whoopa$$ by the ton! :D Scott
