The smoggiest city in the USA is likely to be Los Angeles. I doubt that they burn much coal there.

It is certainly is discouraging that they are
saddled with living like that and working in
those conditions.
Some of the guys I worked with started on the rock picking belt
at the mine where I worked started in the mill on the picking belt
were paid 46 cents an hour in 1947 to pick rocks out of the salt.

I'ld like to hear the flip side of that story. It reminds me of Al Gores pic of the "poor Polar bears", that were drifting away to their doom on an ice berg. Same with those smoke stacks. And the last sentence in that article was referencing global warming again. I'm not sure about the rest of the world, but in this country, you'll have a hard time convincing any of the people on this forum, on the east coast as far south as Georgia, and most of the Northern states that global warming was influencing us.

I did research on that photo. Its a picture of the Robert W Scherer Power Plant in Juliette, Georgia. Its burns coal from Wyoming's powder river basin.
Anyway mostly what you see in the picture is steam from the cooling towers.
When people start talking to me about how coal is killing people in China and so on. I ask them if it would be ok it the Chinese just had to freeze to death instead of burning coal. Or if there $3 walmart shirt cost them $10 and had the same quality. I try to explain that the reason electric is affordable is because of coal.

The overexposure of the towers warning beacon lights along the top rim makes it look like the cooling towers have flames raging within them that are extending clear to the top.

Now I am depressed.
All this time I thought I been freeing all the CO2 that was locked up by plants on the planet. I was just trying to return the earth to its earlier healthy condition before Man started to wreck it. Now do I have to take off my bumper sticker "Restore the environment to Pangaea"?
