Well the boiler ran out of coal right on que today, and the clean-out and re-start for the heating season will be tomorrow as planned. The only thing I did wrong was run it out of coal (a process planned well in advance, and executed 20 days ago when I decided at that time not to add any more coal at that time) was to shut down in the middle of a heat wave. That may make the restart a bit more difficult than anticipated.

Welp if history plays out again I won't be going in until Oct30th -Nov-1st. It's not the dates as much as the parameters. I wait until a week of 32 deg* nites , then it's Go Time.

I generally wait for below 40 degree daytime temps, but generally around All Hallows Eve.

In my neck of Ohio it looks like it is going to get cold on October 17th and then stay cold. If I had a hand fired stove. that would be my target date to fire up.

Started up yesterday, but I'm going to be letting 'er burn out tomorrow most likely. Took on 3.5" of water with all the rain we had. Fired up the DS to help dry things out!

With temps like that, I'd be fired up already. In fact, I am (seeing as I turned the thermostats on back on Oct. 6th.). My upstairs zones have already made heat calls this morning.

Good Christ LD! I wouldn't want your oil bill after looking at that second pic! 2 oil burners!! I go thru a gallon per hour with just ONE. :o

Lit up on Oct.7th last year ... this year had my first wood fire on the 13th .. so almost a week later. Gotta call Pexsupply and find out when that ONE fitting is coming in that's holding up the whole stoker boiler install job. ... :x
