When you price out some new parts from EFM you might change your mind. A dealer with a good selection of used/refurbished parts can be a big asset.

When I discovered the new age of stoker coal stoves I tried to tell the world. No one was/is listening and now that is fine by me. I am constantly amazed by the slow growth of the coal industry around here and we are reasonably close to NEPA. Then last year we were worried about supply and I woke up. What am I doing preaching to the world? Let them have their solar panels in a land where the sun don't shine six months of the year. Black diamonds suit me fine.

In my experience most people get real interested when you tell them how cheap it is to heat a house with coal and then get just as "uninterested" when you tell them it requires a little bit more work than turning a thermostat on an oil burner.

That has been basically my experience as well. Bitch constantly about heating costs, but, unwilling to lift a finger to do anything about it.

We should be getting NG soon. I am the last one that needs it as I am buring coal. Who put up the signs supporting it The last person that needs it in the neighborhood, me Hopefully it will come through. Yes I will hookup, but burning coal is in my blood, so all the gas will do is heat my hotwater like the devil oil has been doing for all the previous years.

Most people just live in a house that barely sees 65 degrees in the winter...or they join the crowd and put in a pellet stove. To each their own I guess.

well I got me a keystoker A 120 and I have to say I think this will be best move I ever made....was burning pellets but every pallet was different was never the same heat every time...at least with coal it will be the same pallet after pallet....i don't think I will regret it and thanks to this forum I learned alot.
i use to burn 4 tons of pellets im curious how much that will be in coal.

To be fair, there's nothing inherently wrong with pellet stoves. For me, it came down to not wanting a stove that needed a battery backup and something that was reliable for long-term burns without much effort on my part. If I lose power for 2-3 days (something that happens somewhat regularly), I am inconvenienced but not dead in the water like my idiot neighbors who cant handle losing power for more than a couple hours. I don't get people that are that unprepared for things like that.

Coal does both of those things quite nicely. That's its also cheap and easy to store? Fantastic.
