Compared to that it's almost tropical here! 15 now, 7 for the low tonight, but it's going to warm up somewhat tomorrow.

Yesterday Saranac Lake was -27, right now it is 28. Where is that guy with the Harman stove in the Victorian? I bet the paint is cured now. :)

I'd say so! This morning it was 18* here. 37* temp change in 24 hours. 4 inches of snow on the way and then back to below 0* at night from Thursday on. 3 years ago yesterday it was -50* in Big Black River, Maine. I was still burning oil then!

Yup, this weather is wacky for sure. My stove is back to idling around 300-350*. I don't mind it so much, saves me coal.

Although I will say this, the one thing I don't like about the up and down weather is that the rear grate on the DS is ashed up and I can't clear it, which means the rear grate is no longer burning and I can't get it burning again without shutting the stove down. Last season all four grates were glowing red. This season, the rear grate has been out and the front grate goes out when I idle down but I can get that one burning again.

Use your poker from the top and clear the ash.

I was going to give everyone East of me an early warning about the wind, had winds of over 50MPH a few hours ago, started to type & lost power for about 3 hr's. So anyway if it ain't there yet it's coming & coming fast with a cold front behind. I had a GFI malfunction so I lost my coal furnace, figure I'll let her rest & cool clean it out & light her up for the rest of winter. For me this time of season we have been having the sump pump is more important, I'll just heat with pro"pain" tonight.

Yeah, I do that, still can't seem to get it to light. I think I need a poker with less of a point on it and more of a knife edge so I can scrape it along the grate and hopefully clear the ash.
