Anyone know of any airports in the immediate vicinity? I'm planning a trip back to Connecticut next summer with my son to visit relatives, and this would make a great stop along the way, rather than trying to fly it in one long (LONG) day in our Cessna 140 (1946 model - just a bit older than some of the A-A boilers on this group LOL!).

Took this fall '05 - Nathan is a 'bit' bigger now!

AVP is the closest, however expect a landing fee. It's an International A/P, so it has all of the amenities. (fuel, restaurant, rental cars, etc.)

Another place you could stop is S. Montrose .P32 Husky Haven . It is a 2100 grass runway . As long as it is dry . I am less than 1 minute away and can give you a ride to the beach . How much coal will you be hauling ? :D Dave

Not sure what kind of runway is at Tunk. but that's only about 15 minute drive. The one flyer mentioned isn't much farther.

Thanks, Guys! I'll check these out and see what kind of flight it would be. I get about 3 hours endurance at 5 gal/hour at 100mph, leaving an hour reserve. I wouldn't want to sit in the plane more than three hours at a time. It's comfortable, but tight, and being pretty basic, there is no autopilot, etc. so I have to hand fly it all time time, which in a small plane, can get tiring especially if it's a little bumpy. Probably have to make 2 stops on the way.

Just realized, that's a 15 minute drive for where the river camp is. If you you're coming for the mine tour or Steamtown Avoca is a lot closer..

tunkhannock, skyhaven airport. 2000x50 paved. grass taxiways. you can land on the grass alongside the runway if you prefer. do it all the time with the j3 and citibria I had. prevailing wind is 95% of the time right down the runway. 640 ft above sl. mountain to the south, but not a pattern conflict. I fly skydivers out of here. also, there is seamans airport. its about halfway from skyhaven to scranton, in factoryville. paved 2500x50. I work here in the maintenance shop. only problem is its pretty much always a cross wind there, and its on a hill so its blowing most of the time. however if you do deciede to stop here, I can pick you up for this event as I live 10 mins away, can also give you a tour of our shop where we take a cessna 210 and put a 510hp rolls royce turbine in it! :)

I might be interested. The tour is a blast. Did it this past spring with the family. What kind of a deal on coal do you get buying as a group? Is it bulk only?

Thanks
