Getting a warm spell, 40* plus. Shutting down stove for a clean out, first of the season. I am always amazed at the
dust that builds up inside them.

I'm not shutting down but I've spent so much time at idle this winter I've gone through a lot of my pea coal. We are expecting temps in the mid 50s all next week, too. When it's colder I burn a mix of pea and nut - most nut. I may have to make a trip for more pea coal. Yeah, I know the nut will still burn but the pea works so much better while idling. Bummer, good thing the nut will last a couple of million years. Lisa

I am envious of the warmer temps, but we stoker folks don't ever shut down.....once, during a mid-winter in a warm period to clean pipes and closely check equipment. I understand the window-stat phenomenon when it gets above 40 degrees with hand feds, but we sure have had a fickle winter, and the past few days sure reinforce that fact.
Heavy rain coming Sunday night and all day Monday....better check the house and Barn roofs, please no headlines at you homes! I play with a Warm Morning 460; a Glenwood cabinet stove and a Tarm hand fed boiler when I have time, so I'm in your ballpark with the daily temp issues. The boilers just hum along peacefully.....feed em......clean up after them.....
Nice to open the windows and get some fresh air into every corner of the house...chase the pets outside for a while....and dream of spring. Hopefully you all have plenty of coal left, if not, reserve some today. This winter sure isn't over!!!
