Fire badly damaged a business in Schuylkill County Thursday night. Keystoker, Inc. makes coal stoves, furnaces and boilers at its plant near Schuylkill Haven.

The fire started around 7:30 p.m. at the company just off Route 61 in North Maheim Township. According to emergency management officials, the flames started in one of four buildings that are connected to each other. That building sustained heavy damage. The others were damaged by smoke and water.

Some 200 firefighters responded to the scene. By 9 p.m., they had the fire under control.

A worker told Newswatch 16 that most of the employees left for the day at 3:30 p.m. He said the rest finished up around 5, and did not report any problems.

No one was hurt in the fire. The cause is under investigation. Keystoker officials have not yet announced whether workers should report on Friday

That is unfortunate, hopefully the building that was mainly damaged wasn't that important and the others only had minor damage.

No chance of a fire sale? :)

Is Keystoker in good shape financially? I believe they are, as they have quite a wait for their units. If they are I would think a quick recovery is in the making here. If they have the right insurance they should be fine.

Emergency crews responded to 60 Keystoker Lane around 7:30 p.m. after the fire started in the area of the manufacturing building used for sheet-metal work and painting. Three other buildings within the facility received only smoke damage.

The statement by James is very much what you would expect! He and his brother George are good men. Hopefully they will pull things together and get back to kicking out their great stoves!

Keystoker is back up and running. They were not down for more than a week. A new building was going up a week after the old one burned down.
