- Hand Fed Coal Stove: Surdiac - Baronet 720
Hey all, been lurking for a while (sorry for being a creep), figured it's about time I say hello.
Bought a house back in Feb. 2011 that came with a Surdiac Baronet on a big brick surround, and a 3 ton coal bin filled to the top (I had no idea how lucky I got). Having grown up with a fireplace I thought "What is this coal stove crap? I'm getting a high efficiency wood stove!" Realizing that the coal bin was FULL I decided to burn what I had, THEN move to wood....
Well, 1 full season burning coal and all I can do now is laugh at how narrow minded and naive I was. No chance of going to wood after seeing how amazing coal is. Kept my 2 story high ranch roasty toasty warm all winter. Lit the fire Thanksgiving, let it go out in early April, don't see that happening with wood...
Making some small repairs, loading up the coal bin for another winter, tweaking my "system" to get it all running smooth - All with the help and info coming from these boards, so Hello to all, and thanks for the help so far.

- Hand Fed Coal Stove: Harman TLC 2000
Wow.. old thread. I joined the forum last year before my first season of burning coal. I needed to find a way to keep my family warm without spending a fortune on oil. I bought a Harman TLC 2000 for a couple of reasons first it is pretty decent at burning wood in the Spring and Fall, also because it comes with heat shields with gives good clearance to the walls. I live out in Central Suffolk County and went through 2 tons last year from November to April 1. Not too shabby with a house VERY toasty. Wife and kids were very happy as I was quite the Scrooge with the oil heat. Just fired up the coal this Sunday and will not look back until Spring. I actually enjoy tending the stove (does that make me weird?) and whenever I get a chance I try to convince my coworkers to give it a try. They are probably tired of hearing me talk about coal .
