Plans for a new plant to convert coal to liquid fuels.
"...…………… West Virginia-based Domestic Synthetic Fuels plans to break ground in October on a new fuel conversion center, which, with the help of natural gas, will convert the Mountain State’s coal into gasoline, low-sulfur diesel and even aviation fuel. …………………"

I wonder how similar the process is to what Germany did making synthetic oil out of coal during WWII ?

It will never compete economically.

Sasol in South Africa has been doing this commercially and totally uneconomically on a large scale for decades. And gasoline sells for ~3 times more in much of the rest of the non-Arab world vs. here in the USA.

Unless I missed it, the article doesn't specify the method, but the "Fischer-Tropsch" method has been around since at least 1925.

And today's plan is to sequester the very heavy CO2 emissions from production of this into the deep subterranean by injection wells...or the deal is off!

I say use some of that CO2 to grow beaucoup algae to make even more fuels... :annoyed:
