Today I noticed a small crack starting on the outside edge of the top cast iron plate which is about
1/8 thick.how long it,s been there I don't know It,s about 1 inch long .can this be brazed?
If it,s beyond repair looks like I will be looking for a new stove. The stove is 60,000 BTU and
did a good job of heating my home this winter.I not going to look for a replacement top.Any
sugestions for makes of hopper fed stoves?

Ed, I recommend the Harman DVC-500. We love it. It can put out 7000BTUs to 75,000BTUs. Computer controlled. Nice and Warm!

hey edd if your gonna fix it I suggest taking a tinsy tiny drill bit and drilling a hole thru the piece at either end of the crack so as to relieve the continuation of that crack. We used to do so on cracked cylinder heads and actually "pin" those holes prior to welding/brazing.. then again buying a new stove is another road to take :notsure:
