My new DS circulator coal stove will be here on feb 5! This is my first time using coal. I have had a wood burner for the past 8 years. I will take lots of pics so I can show you guys! It will be nice not to do the wood thing this summer. This forum rocks and so does Feddy's coal bucket!

Good decision! I don’t think you’ll be sorry in the long run but be prepared for a couple of weeks of frustration as you learn how to burn coal effectively. Burning coal is nothing like burning wood - it takes a different mind set. Lisa

Congrats on making the change to coal. Pictures! We need pictures! As lowfog mentioned, you'll find that learning curve is one letter away from learning curse, but once you've got it figured out be prepared to do nothing for about 12 hours at a time.

I saved the pattern for the coal hod if you want to give it a try. Other than that I'll build another for....Hmmmm.... Ahhhh.... $500. Yup, that would cover the frustration. LOL

I am not familiar with that model stove and look forward to seeing the pics. After 30 years of burning wood I am enjoying burning coal and not having to tend the fire every 3 hours.

Does that stove burn bit? I Googled DS circulator coal stove and didn't find anything definitive on it. The closest thing I found mentioned bituminous coal.

Ohhh, yaaa, is it from Northern tool? Some of their stove are not made for anthracite & they're not real good about telling people about it. What are you intending to burn in it? If anthracite, make sure it will.

Its not from nothern tool and you will not find much on line about it. There a small company out of Gordonville,PA. There a top load, with a hopper that burn anthracte. The fire box is 16-16, size 29"w-37"h-26"d. the hopper can come out as well. Special top-vents creat a natural draft. Weight 500lbs, standard 6" flu, and 96,000 BTU. I will get lots of pics soon.

A friend has a D.S. stove, be very careful to never overfire it, the doors are very light weight (when compare to Hitzer or Harman) and will warp easily. Otherwise it does a good job. I believe they cost about the same as a Hitzer which is a bettter stove in my opinion.

Thanks Freddy Ithink it will. From talking to people in the area that have them they love it. They say its a well built machine and in my opinion it will do the job. I'll will have lots of pics! But I might need a back up ash pan and or lid for the pan. Think you might be up for the job?
