Harman SF 160 Manual

I was looking at the manual on my Harman this morning and happen to notice on the cut-away view of the boiler it shows the fire bricks mounted on end so as to make the box 19" deep, but in my boiler they are mounted on thier sides making the firebox only 5" deep. The picture also shows the when mounted on end the bricks are higher than the water jacket. So did Harman make a mistake or is it really ok to have the coal at 19" deep even if the hot fire is up against the steel jacket. As it is, the water jacket comes down to the top of the bricks with them mounted sideways. I know Greg L says that its ok to have the fire above the bricks because the water will keep the fire from doing any harm to the steel. I have no problem getting a 12 hour burn with a 5" deep bed and mounded in the center to about 8" deep.

Anybody got any thoughts on this?

I'd like to know if the water jacket really protects the steel from the hot coal as well.
