My buddy with the Vermont Castings is having your same difficulties. Just not getting the stove hot and/or getting the heat out of it. Finally last night we added a barometric damper. I had a heck of a time to convince him that either you have 70* room air go up the chimney, or you have 300* stove air go up the chimney. We all know that solid fuel stoves are 70 or 75% efficient, this is just part of the 25 or 30%. It's the way it is! I finally loaned him the damper off my oil boiler for a test. Within an hour of adding it there is a good difference.
