To the guys that burn wood in the sf-250 are you able to maintain stack temps high enough to prevent creosote formation in the chimney?? The reason I ask is that with my Harman Hearth Hero I have to burn it wide open with a full load of wood just to get 300 or so on the stack and figured that the much larger firebox on the sf-250 would allow for a larger wood fire and higher exhaust temps.

What type of thermometer are you using? Maybe it's reading low.
Have you noticed any creosote buildup yet?

I have two magnetic thermometers on the single wall pipe and they read within 5 deg of each other. There is some creosote buildup not bad but I only burn wood when the temps are in the 40-50 during the day and 30-40 at night. The firebox is the size of a mark 1 so theres not much room to get a good fire going and that coupled with the flue exit in the back instead of on top results in lower exhaust temps, great for coal soso for wood.

Burning hard wood tn the Harman SF-250 is OK if the heat exchanger fan is OFF.

Keep the Exhaust stack temp in the safe wood burn temp range...

The heat exchanger fan lowers the stack temp BIG TIME on my stove!

Nut Coal works very well.

In order to keep high stack temps burning wood in the SF250, one has to have a roaring wood fire going which means adding new logs every very often. This has been my experience. Ok for quick or short lasting heat but that's about it. My first 2 years I burnt a lot of wood and loaded up the flue with creosote. 100% coal now except if I need to reboot.
