Hi folks, new poster here. I have just acquired a VC Vigilant 1 (1a I believe) and am in the process or rebuilding it. I am going to burn anthracite nut in it as it has the coal kit installed. I know this is an old stove but it has nice lines and comes from better times as far as the company is concerned. Does anyone have the correct manual around that I might purchase or copy? I also need a bottom heat shield and some idea of the firebrick requirements. I am going to fully dissasemble and reseal the entire stove and the VC website has no active link for my particular model so I found this site and have spent dozens of hours reading it. Any other comments or recommendations welcome as well. Thanks in advance!!

HI Ziggy

I have a first generation VC Vigilant and resolute as well, both with the coal kits. Both are humming alond at low, 200deg griddle temps and the wife just opened a window!

If you PM me with your email address , I'll email you the owners manuals and intallation specs in PDF form.

Only the current Vigilants use fire brick, they have shaker grates going from front to back. The older ones (vigilants with the coal kit) have three rocker grates that go from left to right.

If you look down this thread to last week, there's a discussion of the VC early style Vigilant.

When you have them tweeked and learn their odditied ( all stoves have them!) it runs trouble free and is quite forgiving because of the hopper feed system.
