I have A Harman Mark II working to expectations in my basement. But, my house is dryer than popcorn based flatulence.
I have a cast iron pot on the stove but the tempatures I running the stoves at (250-350deg stack temp, using a mag thermometer) won't produce enough, if any, steam to bring relief. Any ideas? Or should I stock up on chapstik?

I run a 15 gallon humidifier most of the winter to stop the dryness.

Coal heat seems to be very drying. I run a humidifier, which processes 5 gallons some days. Even at that, I see the floor boards shrinking. Mine is just like the Sears pic.

I run this all winter and has solved my sinus issues. Wal-mart $75.

A decade or more ago the ultrasonic style humidifiers were popular. I had one that quit a few years ago. They would blow a find mist of water into the air. Anyone have an idea why they disappeared from the market. They were lower maintenance than the drum style.

Probably because if you had any Calcium Carbonate in the water at all it would end up as a white coating on everything in the house and the little disc that generated the ultrasonic waves would quickly get covered with lime and it would stop working. Or a better system was developed.
I still have one, even with a water softener there is still a tendency to get that coating on the horizontal surfaces in the house, so it doesn't get used, unless I want to do the dusting!
I keep a pot on the Harman. When it's cold enough to light the hand fed it evaporates the water off quickly.

Let some outside air in. Plenty of dampness in the outside air, most of the time anyway. Another thought, keep your room temps in the mid to high 60's. Less heat usually means more relative humidity inside your house.

My wife and kids would throw me out of the house if I kept it in the mid to upper 60's.
They even bitch when I have the t-stat set at 71.

Looks like I'm off to sears, I need to keep the humidity around 50-60% because of a piano (it's worth more than my truck) would get ruined. And I think that it is confortable (for us) if the house is in the mid 60's if the humidity is at normal levels.
Thanks fo the comments.

I believe these had an issue with biologicals in the water and misting chemicals to kill the biologicals along with the water wasn't looked at as a good idea.
