Growing up in the mountains of southwestern Pa. my friends and I would camp out every night in the summer. I would melt pop bottels in the camp fire with ease, then play with the molten glass. Many times I have worried about melting the glass on my stove when I bank it for the night and stack the coal high close to the glass. Any thoughts on this. On my new used stove the fire box is small and close to the glass, a full load may be a problem, don't know? Anybody ever have a problem?

The glass is not regular glass, I believe most use this: http://www.us.schott.com/hometech/english/products/robax/

This stove is old, big time, don't think they had that in this stoves day. I'll just use caution as my guide.

Ray,If the glass didn't melt all ready in the many years of use, I don't think you have anything to worry about.
