I have saved a lot of money with my Hitzer insert. Unfortunately it only puts out 65,000 btus max. I am thinking of putting a Keystoker Koker or large Alaska in my garage which has an insulated door and I will blow in insulation into the walls this winter. I can place a metal chimney in the roof or direct vent out the front. Since these units put out 1440-1500 cfm with blowers I would put 3 ducts through the garage wall into my basement, 1st floor, and second floor which are right next to the garage wall. I would choose the garage rather than the basement because I don't want to haul the coal downstairs. I would appreciate any comments.
The Hitzer has done a wonderful job. It is just too small. It has saved me about $1500 this winter as opposed to gas. I would run it at a minimal setting next year to keep that corner of the house warm.

I would consider installing a boiler instead and running pipes to a water coil in your duct work. You can get a nice water coil for a couple hundred dollars. You would have to have a couple transitions made for your ducts but this would work very well.
