I just bought a remanufactured Chubby coal stove and need coal.
I found 2 tons of Lehigh “Pea” coal are available nearby for $6.25 a bag.

Will “Pea” sized coal work ok in the Chubby?

I am thinking the price is OK for the coal.

If you have good draft and/or don’t plan on pushing the stove real hard pea will work. Worst case is you might need to get some nut to mix in or burn straight in cold weather.

In my Chubby JR I can’t get it over 400F with pea, but if I mix it with nut the stove definitely wakes up.

Thank you for the info. I have put in 20 feet of 6 inch stove pipe into the 24 foot masonry chimney, and put Roxul around the flue, so hoping that will give me enough draft.

I will go ahead and start hauling the Pea Coal over tomorrow.

I was going to get half ton of pea for my mark II, does it slow it down that much? What time of year did you try that? Temps outside?

Pea size burns fantastic especially when topping for an overnight load , you won’t really notice a difference in heat output unless temps plummet and we get steady winds ( that’s a great price cant go wrong 👍👍

I have a Chubby Rear Vent with blower installed in front of my fireplace. I have good draft, sometimes too much and so run a baro damper. If I see a deal on Marketplace or Craigslist I will use Pea Coal. Typically I burn it when its a little warmer 30-40 out as it's very slow to respond and doesn't allow as much air through, and so doesn't burn as hot. Late Fall and Early Spring I think you will find Pea useful. I burn nut coal for best results and stove coal does almost as well. Good Luck!
