Hi friend
It's true that rising prices of various heating fuels can be challenging. Exploring alternative options like modern heat pumps might offer more cost-effective and efficient heating solutions. Hearing different perspectives can help make informed decisions.Networth
Ok, what is your perspective?

I was talking to a friend of mine in the heating business. He recommended not making any sudden moves, and to ride it out. It's kind of what I'm doing, and will probably heat next year with coal again. Hopefully prices drop some so that I don't feel like I've been raped.

Im not removing my coal boiler just yet but just giving it a "time out" for awhile. Ill do gas next season and then compare.

You have a natural gas heater/furnace installed now in addition to the coal boiler ? Easy switch then

In the process, should be ready by fall.

Will the gas appliance also be a boiler where it ties into the current system so its an easy switch between the coal boiler v. nat. gas boiler using same hot water pipes? or a a furnace using force air ?

I have no NG available where I am at...so its a boiler/heating oil fuel or my Hitzer 503. I considered a coal boiler to hook up to the current piping system for hot water floor radiators but opted for the Hitzer 503 insert...wifey reasons (she did not want coal container in the basement).

Is natural gas ever more expensive than coal? I always thought in a boiler compared to boiler situation it was much cheaper

Installing Nat gas will make this house easier to sell. Not many folks using or wanting to use coal anymore. Were a dying breed. After a lifetime of owning over a dozen properties (at the same time) at 66 i want to sell everything.

When selling the house I would sell the coal appliance all together .. people don't understand it and would be put off with it in the house.

Ill take it with me. Its very small. 400lbs. I can use it somewhere. If i end up in the country oil is usually the only option so i may need an alternative heat source.

Not just heat with coal, but you may want to cook with it too.

Our nutty NY governor wants to ban gas stoves and go all electric. And now Washington wants to get its nose under that tent.

2024 is our last chance to stop the crazy both in NY and the rest of America.

NYC already made its building code to not have gas piping, yes ?

Is Sunny Boy going to file a civil suit to block any state-wide gas ban ?

Of course one might be able to heat with NG, just not through MG piping but by tanks. Hard to say w/o any actual legislation passed by Albany - I have not looked at the NYC building changes.

Do you have any idea how much of NY City is using "street gas" ?

No Sunny Boy is not. Sunny Boy heats and cooks with coal. No NG here, piped or tanked, and pro-pain price is as bad as fuel oil.

In Summer, I cook with my 5 cents a KWH electric. :D

Are you going to take legal action to remove all those middle-man charges to lower your very high electric rate ?
