Field Barometric Damper
From what I gather these are good dampers is that correct?
Most always seems to freely swing back and forth but sometimes I see it is open. I tap it and let it swing and then it is closed. So sometimes it gets stuck open.
Anybody have that issue and what did you do?

I had my RC stick open in the middle of the night during a huge windstorm (45+ mph winds) and set off my basement CO detector. I put a screw in the side just before full open so it would bounce instead of stick open. Here's a link to the thread I have pictures of the screw...

I had some POS no name on my furnace that would stick closed. I put a paperclip on it so it couldn't completely close. Not sure how to do the opposite. Is there a groove in the rod?
Good idea! Thanks!nepacoal wrote: ↑Fri. Jan. 27, 2023 6:26 pmI had my RC stick open in the middle of the night during a huge windstorm (45+ mph winds) and set off my basement CO detector. It's true that in extreme circumstances they can stick open. I also put a "stop" in the pipe to prevent the door from reaching that position.

even a quality field control will get some corrosion on the swing pins or they notch the housing slightly , which caused mine to stick I just replaced the old one with another fieldsColdHouse wrote: ↑Fri. Jan. 27, 2023 6:16 pmFrom what I gather these are good dampers is that correct?

Fields want theirs installed in their supplied collar…way longer throat than when using it in a simple tee fitting. But many will overlook this and stuff it on a tee anyways.
Fields will also always be happy to sell another one after a shorten life in a tee.

I thought they made one to fit into a “T” that was shorter? IDK.McGiever wrote: ↑Fri. Jan. 27, 2023 9:16 pmFields want theirs installed in their supplied collar…way longer throat than when using it in a simple tee fitting. But many will overlook this and stuff it on a tee anyways.

I have two Field Control baros. An 8 inch the oil furnace sales company installed in a regular tee and a 6 inch in my shop oil boiler regular tee. They are both about 30 years old with only a little bit of rust at some edges and they work fine.

The type M requires and typically comes with a longer collar because the M's pivot point causes it to stick out farther than the RC. The longer collar keeps it out of the airflow in the pipe. For a 6" damper, the M collar sticks out 5" while the RC collar only sticks out 2".
