Started with 1 1/2” coal bed 3” below fire fence and added about 5” over sloped to front 40# clean bagged Lehigh over 30 minutes or so 5 pm( that’s totally full and I removed a 4 1/2” bowed icast iron baffle so originally this must’ve called for 18# )

Looks good. The BTU of the stove high where it will require more frequent tending ?

It’s supposed to be 45k Btu but you you gotta be running over 500* to get anywhere near that I’ve done it but it’s a waste unless it -15 with winds , 300 all paneled no insulation basement and 900# upstairs I’m expecting at least 36 hours from this 40# I usually load 7-12 # every 16 hours or so

Nice , I prefer loading as much as I can and just shaking 12 hours . I today tired this experiment today myself . But someone got complacent with the top air and didn’t have any set and had a lil poof 💨. I had 3 hods in . Plus reading coal seems to have a blueish orange flame when loading it. I think that might have Ben the culprit . After a while it goes to blue

Yeah , it’s quite disappointing it won’t stay cold . Today it was 11 degrees outside doing barn work and tomorrow will be a high of 40 . Goes from snow season to mud season in hours .I’m at the point where I just adjust the dial when it warms up . I prefer just to leave it set . Makes it hard I’d like to hook up my damper and Mano . But it’s so up and down . Plus i disconnected my oil furnace .

My 24 hr update no shaking at all since loading ( that’s the hardest part) , coal is still at the fire fence so 5-6!” Live coal left haven’t touched any air settings either so I’m around 300* stove top I may shake later if temp drops into mid 200s( I can tell ill be continuing my usual 6-11 pound reloads and burn a little hotter

That’s pretty good , I find myself when I shake 12 hours I have a lot of trouble . Like for instance today I had a stuck grate this morning . Urghhh shrug it off go to bed , get up see if it burnt up . Thankfully it did . I am sticking with 24 hours unless it drops in the teens .
