I noticed several posts talking about the southwestern fields being more semi-anthracite and better (if not the best) quality anthracite being closer to Hazleton. Would this be a fair characterization or am I oversimplifying the coal fields of PA? Would that make places like Jeddo as having great quality coal? I’m burning superior now and considering Jeddo or somewhere else in the Hazleton area.

Its not simple by any means, it all depends on the burn tests of the samples as
anthracite coal seams can and will vary widely in the BTU content.
Again the grades of coal including Peat from highest to lowest BTU are as follows;
Anthracite
Bituminous coal
Sub Bituminous
Lignite
Peat

We have so much more clean burning Sub Bituminous Coal
that we can burn cleanly that we should be taking advantage
of it but we are not.

I’ve been burning Jeddo nut for about 12 years, and love it.
I can’t comment regarding the quality of other coal produced in the area. I started with miscellaneous bagged coal the first year, then switched to Jeddo. I’ve been completely happy with Jeddo.
