Hey Folks.

I'm sure y'all are thinking about the impending weather. Here in my part of PA, we are going to see temps drop like crazy after 12:00 noon on Friday from 20 degrees to a low of 6 degrees by 8:00 PM. I've been contemplating how well my coal stove is going to handle this weather. It will be the true test of what it is capable of doing. Right now I'm at 76 inside (with 38 outside). Tomorrow evening I'll be glad if I can maintain 68 degrees in this 100+ year old house that has no insulation. We'll see....

I have noticed that the colder it is outside, the hotter my stove burns, so I'm hoping for the best. I'll post an update tomorrow evening....

Stay warm, everyone!

Not looking forward to it either but we'll make it through. I have an old house with a coal boiler. Probably gonna go through 100 pounds of coal or more per day for the next couple. I can keep the core of the house around 70 which is the set point with the aid of a few strategic door closures.

It is more of a heat wave for us. Going to get almost to 50 degrees with roaring wind and rain, and then settle back down into the teens on Friday night. Windchill will be just below zero, which is not uncommon for this time of year.

My coal dont seem to be throwing as much heat as usual this year. l will turn the feed up all the way and set the water temp to 200 and if that dont maintain temps ill open the oven door in the kitchen and turn on the dryer upstairs which gets vented inside for the winter. The good news is its supposed to be back to the 50s by new yrs day.

I couldnt push much more than 50 lbs a day thru this K-2 running flat out, but that has always kept me above 70 in the past. I usually keep it at 76.

Wow seeing how much coal some of you use in a day is crazy. I normally hold around 77 in the stove room to keep the whole house around 70-74 depending on wind. In one day I will almost use a 5 gallon bucket of nut. It's been in the 20s during the day and teens at night. Today with this wind I really had to shut my stove down I get bad over draft. Temps are in the low teens with 50-60 mph winds and a feels like of -15F. I just hope to get snow from this storm

A big horse eats a lot of hay. Maybe someday I will move into a smaller house and be in the one pail per day Club.

The hotter than normal temps = global cooling, climate change

The cooler than normal temps = climate change, global cooling

Windy ? 100% global climate change.

Sun goes away for 1/2 the day or so ? Climate global changes.

Needing to use alot of coal ? Missing the coal entry hole most of the time. Due to...
