Slowly toying around with burn rates and load amounts . I have started 24 hour tending . Last evening I put on 40 lbs and went 24 hours before my shake and laid again . Tonight I loaded up 2 1/4 hods around 50 lbs . I’m trying to get a larger base height and stay away from the door . Leaving the right side a little lighter to prevent some excitement. Wouldn’t it make more sense the more area you have covered the more efficient it should burn .

Are you able to load 40# in a single load all at once?

I would be sure and leave some glowing coals up front by the door when loading that much.

I loaded in layers slowly , made a cup a coffee packed my wife’s lunch got ready for work loaded it again . The Re-burn is burning the gasses . I turned it down to running temp . Owners manual says 35lbs or more at a time !

Must be due to overall size of fire box.

It’s hard to grasp how large it is , it fits 22” long logs and you can stack 9-10 large splits . I could probably fit another 50 lb in don’t think I want to but you could ! 4.5 cu ft

That’s perfect glad you are getting the hang of it , ( and it’s nice knowing you can still add another 30-50’#!if you expect to be away longer ) now start working on the 30+ hour burns 👍🔥

The 354 Hitzer give slightly smaller measurements than what I measure. I measure 25”x15” (virtually same as DS) …the DS firebox is about 3” taller than the 354 according to specs. I haven’t measured the height yet.

https://hitzer.com/our-products/stoves-furnaces/model-354

Loading my old way (no longer load 120lbs …burning the stove so low takes too long to rev and tend).

Old loading technique below…
Once I have the first 80lbs in and burning as long as I leave some glowing coals up front (credit to Freetown Fred) … I don’t have to see any blue flames … I can load the next 30-40lbs all at once with zero worry. Again, (see name above) credit where credit is due, I learned to load it without seeing blue flames as it’s just wasted heat up the chimney. If I load on red coals up front it’ll run for quite a while at 300F above the doors as long as I shake every 12 hours and clean along the sides. Banking the coal high and to the rear forced air through the glowing red coal up front. Works very well in deep winter…and even then I am still barely working the Hitzer for this small home.

each stove /chimney setup/ and operator ( and even the identical setup in a different location will all get different results ) I don’t know how long you’ll get but it’s going to be quite a while, my stove top running under 325* will go 20-25 hours making heat and recover with pretty quickly , above 400 and it’s about 17 hrs and less when hotter

Buy one of these wireless multi probe meat thermometers off amazon ( mine was under 30- 4 probe ) you can really fine tune all your adjustments ( 10-20* flue gas temp makes a huge difference in length of burn ) I measure stove top , 14” on stove pipe , room temp at 6’ high about 3’ from stove and probe 4 measure flue gas temp after baro for coal and I remove from pipe and measure surface when burning wood . Stoves in basement so this thing has saved me miles of walking downstairs, plus it’s a cool toy

This is where I’m at at 24 hours and a shake this morning after 12 and a shake tonite at 12 . I feel it could go another 12 .

I do notice the pipe temp gauge I got is very inaccurate according to the picture . That would make sense to get a good measurement to dial it in even closer .

I reved it up a little bit before tending . It didn’t take long to rev maybe 20 minutes .

Holy moly that's a big difference ( which ones accurate) use an electric hair dryeron low or heat some water on 1-2 on a stove , if it is the magnetic one some has a tiny adjustment screw or just tweak the spring slightly when cool ( doesn't have to be exact but shoot for 50-100* ) no clue how to calibrate your digital
