Hello!
New to the forum, and new to coal stoves in general. Found this forum while doing my own research on my latest project, restoring an old salvo wood stove I picked up for free!
I'm hoping to offset some heating costs over the winter here in New England, especially with rising oil prices
I've done quite a bit to it already but still have a ways to go. I've replaced all the broken bricks, repainted, and need to replace the window seals. The grate was melted through So a new one of those is on order as well. I'm curious if there's some sort of plate that is supposed to be on the top on the inside of the fire box... I've seen it mentioned in a couple of other forum posts, but my stove seems to just have the top plate with nothing between?
Perhaps someone has the same model and could maybe share a pic of the inside?
At any rate more pics and updates soon!

Welcome aboard, I believe what you are referring to is a baffle plate , in its simplest form it can be just a single angle or plate that blocks the direct exit of flue gasses /fire . More advanced baffles can reflect heat back into the box or are designed to preheat and reburn the gasses ( all especially helpful when burning wood ) hope to see this project working soon

Maybe my stove is correct then, because it does have the angled plate that would force the smoke up and to the front before going back to the flue
Meanwhile, here's some more progress pics!
