That lake air is warm when it's warm BUT--real cold when it's COLD!! :)
You aren’t kidding…when the lake freezes and the Montreal Express comes through it is a different world, and then in the spring we get to wear sweatshirts until Memorial Day.

About 60", most of which blows away.

You don't have to go very far from us to find quite a bit more snow.

I'm surprised it isn't a lot more up there with the lake. That's not much more than NEPA. Edit: for some reason I thought you were near the lake.

Yep, I am on the wrong side of the lake for that. 20 miles East of they get about twice as much snow.

Hand Fed Coal Boiler: New Yorker Residential MC Series

Post by davacc » Thu. Sep. 29, 2022 10:37 am

Looking for some help. I'm in central PA (Perry county), moved into a home last winter that has a New Yorker Residential Coal Boiler MC Series, I'm looking for someone that can look at it and service and explain how it works! I'm in the military and bounced around my whole life, never had experience with coal. With the price of oil, looking to put this system to work and try and save some $$. I'm new to this forum and would appreciate any help.

From the looks of the forecast i think ill be burning 24/7 from here on out. Wife hates a cold house. Got a half ton buffer for the season so shouldnt matter with supply. Last season i used an extra quarter ton for the cold spring.

I'm burning fuel oil that we got in 2018.
I added the coal stove fall 2017. called the oil man in dec 2017 and told them to hold off on oil delivery because i needed to change out the oil tank from 1971.
Got the new Tank and waited for the oil to run out.
Right before xmas 2017 they came and filled the oil tank. we called them and asked them why they did that. someone forgot to write down that we wanted to stop oil delivery.
Again February 2018 they filled the tank again. they only got like 35 gallons in the tank. We refused to pay for it and told them we no longer wanted their services.

We used some oil with the Reading stove. Now that we have the efm 350 the oil furnace never runs as long as the efm is lit.

We still have just under a half a tank of oil left. How long does it keep?

I bought some oil that was sitting maybe 20 to 30 yrs and it was ok. I guess things like a rusty tank and condensation could be a factor.

Not sure how long it keeps, but I only get oil every 3 to 4 years on a 180 gallon tank, and then I only get 60 to 75 gallons. Been doing that for years. I never had any problems. I only use oil in the early shoulder months, and if and when we would go away for a period of time. And then the thermostat is turned way down. The last few years we been burning coal exclusivity but now turning back to wood for the cool day's. will save my coal for the below zero day's.
I have started my stove top cooking and wont use the electric range anymore for the winter.
You would be surprised what you can do on a stove top!
