I have a duravent 6 inch thimble through the wall of my house. Been ripping down the plaster walls and slats etc to prepare for spray foam.
The outside of the thimble barely gets warm
When running, but I would like some thoughts as to if there needs to be any more barrier around the thimble before the wall gets foamed. Interior wall is exactly 4" thick.

My thimbles have cement for about several inches all around them, filling the wall cavity and separating the sheet metal thimble from all the wall framing.

What does your spray foam guy say?

Concerns about fire aside, you don't want the thimble "glued" into the wall with spray foam. It would be easy enough to keep the spray foam a few inches away and insulate that area with rockwool.

+1.........This gets my vote too. Rockwool would be ideal for this application.

Use the 18" rule. Anything closer than 18" from your stovepipe should be insulated with rock wool, as it is unknown if someone may choose to burn wood and the difference between coal flue temps and wood flue temps are quite drastic.

I think this is what my chimney guy did. It was pretty basic/straightforward..and my house is over 100 years old with horsehair plaster/lathe/etc.

I love to see these old houses restored as close to time era as possible. My deed goes back to 1845. Good on you M. :)

The old houses can store a lot of wind energy.
