Coal Size/Type: Nut

I have a chance to get 3tons of buckwheat coal for free. Can I use it in my hetser 354 and if I can what mixture is the best

Can you? Yes. No where near ideal. It's tiny compared to pea. Have you used pea size in your hitzer? You could top dress pea or nut with it. Probably need a lot more air.

I use nut didn't know if I should mix it or layer on top

Scott has the right idea see if you can sell it, I’ve burned rice on top of Nut coal but it’s very slow going at about 3-5# per 25# reload any more and it will choke your draft ( I had about 250# and it took at least 2 months to use in the above manner)

you can mix it on top.
My roommates at the old place used to "borrow" my buckwheat coal for their hand fed stove.

I've never heard of buckwheat coal. Makes me think of buckwheat pancakes! LOL..... :lol:

Oh, the horror! I had them once, a buddy of mine, his dad was making breakfast and says sit down, I'm making pancake s. How many ya want? I said 3. What a mistake, I could hardly move the rest of the day.

Yeah, they're pretty hearty! I personally don't care for them... they're OK but I'd rather just have the standard buttermilk pancake. LOL....
