I finally changed out my old door gaskets for new ones. The main door gasket actually goes into a molding around the opening of the stove instead of on the door itself. The ashpan door gasket goes directly on the door. This is different than the Franco Belge that I used to have. At any rate, the main door gasket doesn't look new because when I closed the door, there must have been debris or dirt or something and it discolored the gasket pretty quickly. However, the ashpan door gasket definitely looks new. Ready to go!

I am gonna wait to put my new door gaskets on.
Don't want to have them compressed all summer long.
I think I will wait until I fire her up this winter.

I used the cemen that came with the kit. It worked fine for me at this point. However, they are saying something about firing it up to "cure" the cement? I'm not firing it up until this fall, so I hope it still holds and works OK when I get to that point....

I've used the Permatex ultra high temp stuff a lot. For the load door, there's better higher temp sealers. I'm pretty sure the Perkins black professional is one that DS Machine once sold me. 2000 degree rating rather much lower ones.
I really wouldn't use regular silicon anywhere.

What's in the stuff that I used that came with my kit? Is it any good or will it go bad quickly after a season of burning?

Once opened the shelf life is rather limited.musikfan1968 wrote: ↑Thu. Jul. 07, 2022 10:21 amWhat's in the stuff that I used that came with my kit? Is it any good or will it go bad quickly after a season of burning?
Might still be good for that winter, but once the air gets into the tube, it starts the curing process.

OK. But now that I've got my gaskets glued in, how long is that glue job going to last? I'm just wondering if the stuff that came with the kit is decent or if I'll end up replacing again in another year. Will that cement work loose or lose it's efficacy which means I'd have parts of the gasket coming loose....

I did the same thing one year - installed new gaskets over the summer. The cement "set" the first time I fired up in the fall. I think you will be fine.
