Hand Fed Coal Stove: ?

Post by dustyroads » Fri. Apr. 08, 2022 10:28 pm

First off hello. I have never owned anything coal that didn't say "weber" on the side of it. I recently purchased a coal (pretty sure) stove. I plan to use it at my business which is in the process of relocating to a former train depot built in 1910. My goals for having a coal stove are:

- as a good period piece
- as a backup source of heat.
- possibly to save money if natural gas prices go up.

The depot has a pipe in the wall of the basement that goes to the brick chimney. What do I need to or should I do to have the chimney checked out for use. Should I have it lined?

I was going to buy a newer railroad stove but I came across this stove on facebook marketplace for $450. The stove I bought is somewhat of a mystery. It says Wetters Topaz on the top. and 116. It was used as a decorative piece by the previous owner and never used. It looks like it needs grate(s) or something. What would I need and where should I get it.

Where can I get coal either shipped to me or locally in Minnesota. I am in the South Metro. Everyone says tractor supply but the local stores dont have it and I called tractor supply and they wont ship it to me.
