We are all just working class blokes that are screwed by politicians stupidityJust a snapshot of what is happening with prices in the UK. My natural gas price per therm has risen by 174% in just over 12 months. Electricity 83% over the same period.

My sentiments exactly
Thanks for the input about UK situation. Pretty much confirms what I thought. Here in NY state we're pretty much following the disastrous European / California/UK model. My fear is that coal burning won't remain under the NY DEC radar and they'll outlaw it. If that happens just call me Jessie James. LOL.

Coal is not really "under the radar" in NYS. In fact, NYS acknowledges coal as an accepted heating fuel treating it like all the other fuels.Gian4 wrote: ↑Sun. Just this week I was helping someone who is dealing with reduced income find help to pay their bills. NYS not only includes coal in their HEAP heating program, they have a web page dedicated to finding all the coal dealers (listed by county) that participate in the State's HEAP payments program.
https://otda.ny.gov/programs/heap/
Curious, I checked out my county and found another coal dealer near by that I was not aware of, but NYS was.
Also found it interesting that the two Tractor Supply stores near here are not part of the program.

How can this thread not be political? In the past 20-30 years (or more), the evidence has proven itself. Put your liberal democrats in office, inflation, fuel prices, (and everything else follows) skyrocket, and the economy, and stock market sucks wind. It's not rocket science. Everything was fine 2-3 years ago. Gee, I wonder what happened?

I'm going to say that anyone burning coal has too much sense to be a politician.coalnewbie wrote: ↑Sun. Mar. 13, 2022 2:38 pmWe are all just working class blokes that are screwed by politicians stupidity

This is such a narrow view . There is a war going on. It's been brewing for a while.joeq wrote: ↑Sun. Mar. 13, 2022 4:57 pmHow can this thread not be political? The OP posted this topic under "hand fired stoves and furnaces", yet should be under politics, because this issue is 100% political. And sure, there is a "war" going on. Why do you think that is? Since the Obama administration destroyed what little sensibility there was left in Washington, when it comes to the voting public, there is a divide as large as the grand canyon. My half is loaded with the information we choose to accept, and the other half has theirs. After Jan. 6th 2021, I don't dabble in the political scene anymore, because it's just wasted time. I'm punching out of this thread.

I no longer have a boombox or a video camera. So my cat cannot tape anything either. I'm pretty sure I could teach her to though. She's a very smart cat.

Sorry, but this post has nothing to do with politics, but everything to do with corporate greed.
Take French owned EDF energy for example. EDF put up French consumers bills by 4% and UK consumers by 54% on average. It just so happens, that the French government have an 84% stake in EDF, so capped their prices at 4%, and EDF had to take the hit.
UK privatised energy companies are also working on 40% profit margins and paid £200bn in dividends to shareholders, while 30 million Brits could be classed as living in fuel poverty by the end of 2022.
Now, I'm all for the free market, but when unfettered capitalism goes unchecked, and virtually unregulated, we the consumer, end up in the midst of a greed crisis, and that is what's happening in the UK.
I also offer my apologies for perhaps posting this in the wrong section.
Cheers,
David.

No apologies needed. What is needed is a generator and a wood gasifier.
