Yes that heatrola can be throttled back, just by adjusting the spinner valves and using pea coal. But the grates are tricky as they were designed to burn nut and stove and egg coal. I always, and still do keep a majority of a layer of dead ashes on my grate. Especially when I had my old estate, as we didn't know where we could get replacement grates.
Now that I am on this forum, I found out that a foundry or two are casting special orders. But to me it makes more sense to keep a layer of dead ashes on my grates, as why would I want to buy new grates because of an over fire, or some other causes that would warp my grates. So far this has worked great for me.

It is fairly hard to find coal burning stoves this far west of any size. I looked at a couple Warm Mornings and both were damaged inside so gave up wasting time and gas looking. Then I got my Riteway at a sale for $22 and got it, fixed it. I know its temporary but for now its fine and was cheap and will burn anything I can fit thru the door. The Chubby I have I ordered from the company refurbished.

You can throttle back a coal stove to run quite low in heat output. Even the large stoves like the Riteway Im using. You just have to take the time to learn how to run each stove. I hope you can get the parts repaired on your smaller stove if thats the one you want to use.

I’m also looking for a smaller size to fit into a fireplace. I figure for the price of a new insert if I could find a small parlor stove to fit it might look a little nicer. The only small ones I’ve found so far were wood burners.

I got my Jr years ago before Larry started selling new full sized stoves again. When he started selling new ones the price of used ones jumped quite a bit so he had to raise the price of his refurbished stoves. I think he gives the prices on his website, but not for Jr's. Mine was years ago so isnt inline with todays prices.

Can tell where you are at by looking at the floor.

Ask more detailed questions for better answers.
