Hand Fed Coal Stove: Keystoker hopper stove

Post by MariyaL » Sun. Jan. 16, 2022 4:13 pm

Hi,
We bought a house with a hand fired Keystoker stove, now it’s getting colder and the storm is coming and we were finally able to successfully to start it up. Everything was going well, until the fan went out suddenly. The wire from it was too close to the hot part of the stove and burned out.
I have no idea what to do now!! Can we keep it running or put it out immediately?
Please help

Fan not an absolute requirement. Continue with ordinary caution.

Mari..........
A model # or a pic of your stove would help us provide the safest recommendation....just guessing, if this fan only blows the hot air into the room, the stove will still function, just will not distribute the heat as well, and you can use external fans to move the heat around. Oh....unplug the fan from the outlet.
Cheers

Find someone with some basic electrical knowledge and repair/replace the damaged wire.

No need to shut down. Unplug it first!! LOL Use wire nuts & elec. tape for patching. Keep us posted.

Going on the information provided, I would guess that the conductor (metal) part of the wire didn't sever, so it probably blew a fuse when the insulation on the wire melted thru..
