I'm picking up a Gibraltar mcc this weekend to use as a hand fired stove to aid my Allen stoker on the cold days this winter.
(100+ year old house with no insulation and leaky single pane windows)
I have an unused chimney i can plumb into i just want to make sure i pipe it right so i have a few questions.
1, if i put in a Baro do i need a MPD
2, what is the best way to clean out a brick chimney that hasn't been used in 10+ years i can see a birds nest in it where the stove will connect in the wall.
3, where would the best place to get a replacement glass for the MCC be the one in it now is cracked.
Thanks

For the glass I’d call around and see if someone has ceramic glass locally , if not just measure and there’s tons of stove glass suppliers online , if top of chimney is clear of obstructions I’d just stick a shopvac hose in the flue to get what I couldn’t reach by hand

personally I went my first season without either only using my my stoves air settings to limit draft , I installed a baro the 2nd season and what a huge difference in amount of coal used , my manufacturer only recommends a baro , I added an MPD only for when burning wood but rarely use it . I’d stick with the baro first be sure to get a manometer ( dwyer MK 11) about 40- so you can properly set the baro

Crawled up on the roof today chimney looks good from top down. got the shop vac out and started vacuming out the birds nest got out as much as I could but still have a blockage that i cant get to with the shop vac. I have to find somthing flexable to shove up the inlet in the wall and make 90 degree turn to free up the clump. I think I will put only a baro on this unit I dont see a need for a MPD if I dont plan on burning wood.

You know a chimney brush works great to clean the chimney.

Yes it does but not when you have15+ years of blocked solid dirt from a birds nest stuck in itHoldencoal wrote: ↑Fri. Dec. 10, 2021 4:50 pmYou know a chimney brush works great to clean the chimney.

Went a got the mcc today, couldn't complain for what I paid all it needs is a new glass. It is larger then what I wanted but for 100$ I could have done Alot worse. Even has the blower and a thermostat on it to control the blower. Working on cleaning out that chimney now.

Glass finally shipped today, going to crawl back up on the roof this weekend to get the rest of that dang birds nest out. Then I can finally start hooking this unit up. I'm excited for the first fire on this stove this is my first had fired unit. Also any suggestions on how far to keep the stack away from the wall. It is plaster from the 40s, wallpaper is removed I was going to us plain black stove pipe. Double wall insulated may be a better option for this install I would like this unit to be as close to the wall as i can put it. Where do you guys buy your Baros? I stopped at Lowes and the TSC near me Neither of them had any.

Here ya go.. This is the one most of us use for coal stoves.
Field Controls type RC
I would suggest using a 6 inch black stove pipe "T" instead of the collar they provide with it..
