Hey guys
Need more advice.
Got this 983 going and it is a monster.
This is the second time I have had this happen right under the door it gets red hot. That can’t be good
What can I do to stop this?

Don’t know where Lee went.
First step close those ash pan vents fully, them give it a couple minutes to see if temps drop.
Open all stove and pipe dampers to let the heat up the chimney. Give it a few minutes to see if temps drops.
Where did you go, Lee??

Good, Lee...I feel more comfortable with your experience here. Good questions that need answered.

Dam… only two possibilities gasket on door and did you fill in your legs holes under the stove? Your sucking some serious air judging from the ash pan door holes showing that much glow.

Also judging from the photo your coal level looks way low should be to the top of the fire bricks mounded in the middle so you can control the fire. Your stove will fill up with ash in the front to kind of insulate that steel where you are glowing after a day or so of burning.

Should there be a row of firebrick where the red hot steel is showing above the ash door?Toddburn wrote: ↑Sat. No Lee doesn’t come that way Keepaeyeonit modified his with a row however. I have the brick and angle steel cut to do mine but never did. As I said after a few days of burning the ash builds up there and insulates. Been 3 years and no problems for me.

Oh ok cool, good to know. I read his older posts he said he burned tractor supply coal which of course would be anthracite. But that fire he just posted doesn't appear to be anthracite? Maybe he's get some wood or bit coal in there.
