I lit my chubby last night.
My 1st burn with it.
Very easy to light and kept it running 12 hours last night easily.
How Low can we go?

This is the ashes generated since Friday late afternoon. That's a 5 gallon can. It's been mostly in the twenties up here in Northern Maine since then. It's my first coal fire of the season and I'm a little out of touch with el Chubby. Inside was getting up into the mid-high seventies and we had to crack the window at the top of the stairs a few times. I've been keeping the primary vent closed and letting her ash up some. We're at about 68-70F now inside. I open the primary just a smidge before hitting the sack. I'm burning TSC coal.

Hello, Are you referring to MPD?I've been keeping the primary vent closed
Do you have a rear vent?
Do you have Barometric Damper?

It's a well insulated 800 sq ft house. It doesn't take much. I don't fuel the Chubby with coal until the temps stay below freezing otherwise we're stripping down to our bare ashes.

Keep a close eye if it falls under .01
I assume the high port isn't connected to anything, just open to the room?
Make sure you pull the probe and "zero" the mano frequently if running that low. You want to make sure its accurate

Thanks for the advise,
I normally keep it at .025-.03
I ran a franco belge wastefully 20 years ago and switched to oil.
Found a used chubby and got parts from Larry
1st fire yesterday
Interesting day yesterday as I heard a loud bang and smoke after 3 hous of Chubby
Wife yelled and first thing I thought was "puff back"???
I never heard of a puff back or ever had one with franco belge until reading it here on coalpail
but it was the oven that popped and smoked

Mine went out while we were out and about. Looks like I had too much ash buildup. I'm recovering now.
